Location/Access: Popolopen Brook is in the southern section of the reservation, beginning at Stilwell Lake dam and flowing downstream 3.5 miles to the reservation boundary in the vicinity of the Queensboro Furnace in Training Area CS. Access is excellent from Mine Torne Road. However, locked gates (#71 and #73) control access at Weyants Pond Road and Camp Shea Road (Areas U2 and CS respectively). Mine Torne Road may be closed during range operations in June and July. Canoes can be used on parts of the brook upstream of the Weyants Pond Road bridge. The section downstream of the Weyants Pond Road bridge is some of the most beautiful on the reservation.
Fishing: Fishing pressure is heavy in April and May, very light at other times.
Species Composition: American eel, RAINBOW TROUT, BROWN TROUT, brook trout, white sucker, redfin pickerel, redbreast sunfish, bluegill, blue-spotted sunfish, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, common shiner, longnose dace, cutlips minnow, blacknose dace, and fallfish.
Stocking: About 300-500 eight-to-sixteen inch trout are stocked each spring. Holdover by trout is non-existent, except in the section downstream of the Weyant Pond outlet stream.
