What is a Private Organization?
As defined by AR 210-22 and DoDI 1000.15, a private organization is a self-sustaining, non-Federal entity constituted or established and operated by individuals acting outside any official capacity as officers, employees, or agents of the Federal Government or its instrumentalities. It may be incorporated or unincorporated. It may operate on or off DA installations; however; to operate on post, the private organization must have written consent of the Installation Commander.

Private organizations play an important role in creating a positive community environment and improving the quality of life on Army installations. Private organizations offer a wide variety of valuable activities and services which provide avenues of support, esprit de corps, relaxation, and social interaction which would not otherwise be available. All individuals living and/or working on our installations are encouraged to participate in recognized private organizations. However, it is important that individuals who elect to participate in these private organizations do so on their own free will without coercion or pressure from commanders and supervisors.

An application takes approximately 8-10 weeks to process. You will receive a letter of authorization upon approval by the Office of the Garrison Commander.

Approval is valid for two years. A revalidation must be obtained by providing a revalidation application 90 days prior to expiration to avoid a lapse in your authorization.
