The Life of the Typical Girl

at West Point

Hi, my name is Meghan, but call me Meg. I live at West Point, NY and it is the best place in the United States! There is everything anyone could ever want! I've been at West Point three quarters of my life, and I'm 11! I'm in fifth grade and go to the School Age Services. The S.A.S. is just like... a mini school. There are teachers that you can trust, areas you can play in, like the art and drama area, and there is a snack area so every day you can eat a snack when you come from school, a gym, and a 'technology center'. The S.A.S offers their services until you are in the sixth grade, and then you go to the Y.S.

The most  important thing on West Point is the West Point Military Academy! There, they train, and teach cadets to go into the army. At West Point, there is trophy point, Michie Stadium, the middle and elementary schools, and the hockey stadium, and a tennis center. Trophy Point is a place on West Point that has cannons from the wars that the United States has been through. Trophy Point is also an art subject. The middle and elementary schools are just like typical schools. The hockey stadium is for the cadets as well as it is for the hockey team for kids, and ice skating practice. The tennis building is just like the hockey stadium, except it is for tennis. When I say it is just like the hockey stadium, I mean children and adults can both use the area.

I'm not the only child at West Point. I have befriended almost everybody at my school. My best friends that are girls are named Tiffany, Latranee, and Kristen. My friends that are boys are named Zac, and Malik. My teachers are semi-nice. At my school they teach all sorts of subjects. They teach fifth graders language arts, social studies, reading, math, science, music, phys ed., applied tech, art, keyboarding, chorus and advisory (homeroom). My school has awards assemblies each quarter and the school gives certificates to the fifth graders who have succeeded at getting all A's, A's and B's, being nice, and many more. I got the A-B honor role certificates for the first, second, and third quarters of school.

Since I am an army brat, I have many different interests. I usually complete my interests at the Y.S. My special interests are painting, typing, playing tag, and building things with legos. The Y.S has it all! Plus, if I feel like I want to play a sports game, like tag which is one of my favorite games, we go to the gym to play the chosen game. On Friday, it is free day in the gym, and we can do whatever we want that doesn't involve killing someone, or robbing a bank, (ha ha). Last month the Y.S had a fine art show. If you click on Y.S up at the top, and then go down to the 'Fine Art Show Winners', or something like that and click it, then you will see a 45 degree angle of the lego house. I can excel at my typing activities  at the 'technology center' (computer lab). On the computers you can go on the internet, Microsoft, and the normal computer games. In the S.A.S room, kids can go to the art area and paint, or draw, or do art stuff.

The BGCA is great. Without them, I would not be able to enjoy all these fun activities. Being part of the BGCA has changed my life in so many ways. It has made me a much happier and intelligent person.

That is the typical day of an army brat living in West Point.
